Fruity Popsicles

 

Makes: around 7 popsicles                    

Popsicles are a great snack when it comes to summer. They are refreshing, and delicious! And these ones are also healthy, well depending on your juice. So if it is hot, and you need a snack, make a popsicle!

Supplies:

Popsicle sticks

Fruit of your choice (I am going with strawberries)

Juice of your choice (I am going with tangerine juice)

Milk

Bananas

A popsicle mold

A blender

Directions:

1. Pour milk (one cup per 7 people) into your blender. 

2. Add bananas (one per 7 people) into the blender

3. And add some juice into the blender (I suggest 2/3 of a cup of juice per 7 people) and blend

Note: While this is blending, or some other time, you should chop your fruit, if you did not buy pre-cut fruit

4. Once that is fully blended, pour the mixture into your popsicle mold

5. Put it in the freezer for around 26ish minutes

6. After 26 minutes or so, drop the chunks of fruit in

Note: You may need to push the fruit down with a spoon or a popsicle stick

7. Place a popsicle stick into each section

8. Let freeze until they are completely frozen

9. Once they are frozen, you can eat them!

Little, or Big, Watermelons

 

You can use these DIY watermelons for whatever you like! Bookmarks, wall decor, garlands, etc. It’s all up to you! And they only take around 5 minutes to make (depending on size and amount of course)!

Supplies:

Red paper

Green paper

Pencil/pen/marker

Glue

Scissors

Directions:

1. Take your green paper and draw your watermelon shape, as big as you like.

2. Cut the watermelon shape out

3. Take your red paper, and draw a smaller watermelon shape

4. Then proceed to cut this one out as well

5. Glue the red piece onto the green

Note: if your green part sticks out more than you would like, feel free to cut it so it is shorter on the sides

6. Now draw little seeds onto the red bit with a pen or a pencil, or whatever you like

7. And now it is just up to you to decide what you want to do with it!

Games to Play on Long Road Trips

 

There are lots of kids out there that get bored on trips. But today, I am going to list a couple games that you can play in the car! They may not last you forever, but they will last for some time. So here we go!

Spot It!

This is the car version of I Spy. Here’s how you play:

You will need at least 2 players

One person says ‘I spy something green’ the green is just an example. It can be anything you like, from colors, to textures. The other person then has to try to figure out what they saw. If they saw a green car, it might take a while to guess. You get 2 hints per round. These hints can be almost anything. For example, if it was a car, you could say it was fast. The person to win 5 rounds first wins! If you give up on a round, then you do not win that round. And you take turns saying I spy.

Pipe Cleaner Challenge

2 players at least

For this game you will need some pipe cleaner (be careful not to lose any in the car!) 1 person looks to the left or right (or they think of the first thing that comes to mind) and whatever they see they, you both have to make with the pipe cleaner. Take turns doing so. When you have both finished making this, you attempt to see whose was better. If there is a 3rd person they can judge, if not you both vote to see whose was better. If you both vote yourselves, it is a tie. And if you vote each other, it’s a tie. But if one of you votes yourself, and the other votes you, you win. Or vice versa.

What is it?

Two players at least

One person looks out their window, while the other grabs an object (not connected to the car!). That person then either hides it in their hands, or between their legs depending on the size. When they are ready, the other person turns from the window to look at the hider. They then proceed to guess what was taken. They get 3 guesses. If you guess on the 1st try you get 5 points. 2nd try= 4 points. And the 3rd try= 2 points. If you go over 3 guesses no points are earned. The first to 20 (or more for a longer game) wins! This game can also be played without points if you wish.

Ok, I know what you’re thinking, ‘Hasn’t she already put out a post of book reviews??’ And the answer is, yes, I have. But there are just so many good books out there, I couldn’t help myself! Reading is one of the things that makes me the most happy. So here is a list of books that I enjoyed:

Anne of Green Gables     by: Lucy Maud Montgomery

I loved this book so much! It was truly amazing. It is fun to read how Anne goes about her life, the trouble she gets into ;), and how she views the world around her. This book was so amazing. I love the entire series of Anne, and they are truly amazing books that really make you think about the world around you.

Alice in Wonderland    by: Lewis Carrol

This book was so quirky and fun! I have always been an Alice in Wonderland fan, but I had never actually read the book. But once I did, I was so glad. This book is so fun to read, you can never get bored when diving into one of Alice’s adventures. All of the fun and well-written parts of this book make up an incredible book, that I definitely recommend reading!

My Family for the War    by: Anne C. Voorhoeve

This book definitely isn’t perfect, and may not be the best for especially little kids. It has a slight amount of cursing in it. But other than that, I found this a great read. It really shows you the life of some of the people in the World Wars. You will find yourself clinging to hope just like Frances does, and your heart will drop as you read through her life story. This book is truly amazing, and I felt like I was really going through Frances’ life as I read it. It was a truly amazing experience to read this one.

Farewell  to Manzanar    by: Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston and James D. Houston

This book was incredible! It tells the story of World War II. The life of Jeanne Wakatsuki. Sent to many internment camps. This story was very enjoyable. This book really shows what life was like for some of the people in World War II. This story was amazing and well-written. I loved reading about this girls incredible journey.

DIY Ball

 

This ball is great for a game of catch, tossing, soccer, or whatever you like! Just keep in mind, it doesn’t bounce. And this ball can be made in all different colors, so long as you have certain fabrics for those colors. Let’s get to it!

Supplies:

Fabric

A toiler paper roll

Fabric glue (or a hot glue gun might work better)

Directions:

1. Using the directions from the blog post titled ‘T.P. Roll Present’, make a square box with your toilet paper roll

2. Next, take your fabric, and wrap it around one side of the box, and then cut out that strip just a little longer, so it will overlap with itself 

3. Wrap it around that one side of the box, and where it overlaps, add your fabric glue so it stays secure

4. Now take your fabric again, and cut out a strip for the side that still shows the box instead of fabric

5. Wrap it around that side of the box, and secure the part that overlaps with glue

6. Now wait till it dries, and then you have a ball great for catch, tossing, soccer, or whatever you like!

DIY Spring Decorations

 Spring. The wonderful season of flowers and beauty. 

Spring is an amazing time, and what better way to enjoy than to make the inside of your home look just as beautiful as the outside? Today we are going to look at a few ways we can make that happen.

A Leaf Garland:

Leaves are great for summer and spring, so you can keep them up for both! Not to mention, there are incredible easy to make! You just need embroidery floss, and paper. I used green, but you could totally do a pastel leaf garland! Simple cut out some leaves, and tape them to your embroidery floss, and hang it up anywhere!

Paper Chains:

Yes, we did use these in winter as well, but they come in so many colors that they work for whatever! I chose purple for my chain, but you can use any color you like! Pink, purple, green, light blue, yellow, or all of the above work great! These are very simple to make; just take some paper strips, and glue the ends together, then place another strip inside and glue those ends, thus forming a chain.

Paper Flowers:

It just would not be spring without flowers. These paper flowers come in all shapes, colors and sizes. You can find many variations but all work so long as they are flowers! You can do whatever you like. And then you can string them and make a garland, place them around the room, place them in pots, or whatever!

Easter Eggs:

Spring is great for Easter eggs, because, of course, Easter is in spring! So you can definitely have Easter eggs anywhere in your house. They can be real painted eggs, paper, or anything!

DIY Mini Basket

 

This little DIY project is adorable and useful! You can store home-made paper stars, rocks, pine, or whatever you want inside this little basket. It is super simple when it comes to the making, and you can do it with simple items you find at home!

Supplies:

A T.P. Roll

Scissors

Tape (or a glue gun, which might work better)

Directions:

1. Fold your toilet paper roll into a square (in order to do this, first flatten it one direction, then the other)

2. Use your scissors and cut off an end piece (the larger you make it the taller your basket will be)

3. Take that square and place it on top of your toilet paper roll like this

4. Cut off another piece based on where the first square ended

5. Now stick the first square inside of the new one (make sure they are both a square shape!)

6. Now cut in the middle of the area on the top

7. Fold the ‘flaps’ that you now have inward

8. Now use tape or a hot glue gun to secure it inside

Note: I used tape to secure mine, but it wasn’t sticking very well. So you might want to. Use stronger tape than normal, or a hot glue gun to secure it

9. Decorate it if you like, and you are done!
